The President and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda took part in the first concert of the winners of the Chopin Competition at the Grand Theatre – Polish National Opera.

During the ceremony, the President presented the Gold Medal to the winner of the 1st Prize, Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu from Canada.

In his speech, he thanked all pianists and musicians who entered the 18th Competition.

“Thank you for your effort and great emotions,” said Andrzej Duda.

In the president’s opinion, choosing the winner of the competition was extremely difficult.

“We are proud that Chopin was a Pole, he came from our country and walked on Polish soil. We hear Poland in this music. When we hear it, we see the flowing Vistula, leaned willows, landscapes characteristic of our country,” said the President.

He emphasized that “Chopin is a Polish artist and we are all proud of it”.

“Chopin’s music is a world-class one, it is a great pride,” he assessed.
