The Institute of National Remembrance reminds of Poles murdered in the first months of the German occupation

On Sunday, October 24, the Institute of National Remembrance will recall the Poles murdered, among others in the first months of the German occupation in 1939 in Wielkopolska, Pomorze, Kujawy, Śląsk, and the Łódź Region. This is the next action “Let’s light a grave candle of memory”.

Before November 1, the Institute of National Remembrance encourages people to commemorate the places of execution of Poles and places of German terror in the territories incorporated into the Third German Reich during the last war.

Only until the end of 1939, the Germans murdered in the territories incorporated into the Third Reich – in Wielkopolska, Pomorze, Kujawy, Śląsk and the Łódz Region – about 40,000 Poles. They were mainly representatives of the so-called leaders, among others, teachers, officials, social activists, priests.

“The action is a joint initiative of five Branch Offices of National Education of the Institute of National Remembrance from Poznań, Bydgoszcz, Katowice, Łódź, and Gdańsk, as well as the Polish Radio,” said Marzena Kumosińska from Office of the Łódź Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance.
