Russia’s national team will play against Poland in the first round of the qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, the Russian Federation said. The meeting will take place on 24 March at 6 PM GMT+1.
The winner of this rivalry will face the winner of the match of Sweden vs. the Czech Republic in the decisive match on 29 March at homeland. The Russians have confirmed that their possible appearance in the final would also take place at the Luzhniki Stadium.
“We are pleased to announce that the Russian national team is returning to the Luzhniki, where we hope to play two of the most important matches of the first half of 2022. We hope the stands will be full and the fans will give the team the support it needs to win,” said Russian Federation Secretary-General Alexander Alayev.
Russia’s play-off against Poland in the semi-finals was decided by the November draw in Zurich. The Poles were not seeded, so it was already known that the semifinal match will be played away.
