The flame from the Grotto of the Nativity of Christ, so the Bethlehem Light of Peace, was received on Sunday by the scouts of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association from Slovak scouts. The ceremony was held in a small group at 9 am at the border crossing on Łysa Polana.
This year’s message accompanying the journey of the Bethlehem Light of Peace is: “Light of Hope”.
“We want the Light to be the motivation and strength to overcome difficulties. In times of unrest, it is supposed to become a spark that will burn in the heart of each of us and help everyone face the challenges,” explained the deputy chief of staff of the Bethlehem Light of Peace 2021 scoutmaster (hm.) Martyna Kowacka.
By handing over the Bethlehem Light of Peace, the representatives of Slovak scouts wished the Polish delegation and all compatriots a merry Christmas.
The action of handing over the Bethlehem Light of Peace was initiated in 1986 by Austrian scouts who brought the flame from the Nativity Grotto in Bethlehem to the Vienna Cathedral. From there, thanks to the scouts, the flame goes to almost all European countries. Polish scouts have been participating in the great relay of the Bethlehem Light of Peace since 1991.
