– On holidays, the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border was calm – said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Błażej Poboży. – This crisis is not a migration one. It is an artificially created crisis of airlifting migrants to the border area and trying to smuggle them into Poland and the European Union, he added.
“Christmas time was relatively quiet. During the last few weeks, we got used to attempts to illegally cross the border. The number of these attempts is decreasing, as well as the number of participants. It was unusually quiet on Christmas Day,” said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration on TVP Info.
“In the climactic moment, there could have been as many as 10,000 migrants in the border area, but today we estimate their number to be between three and four thousand,” Poboży reported.
He estimated that building a permanent engineering barrier on the Polish-Belarusian border, equipped with modern solutions, will eliminate the basic way of forcing the border.
“This crisis is not a migration one. This is an artificially created crisis involving the airlifting of migrants to border areas and attempts to smuggle them into Poland and the European Union,” he emphasized.
