Czesław Michniewicz became the new manager of the Polish national football team on Monday. The 51-year-old has signed a contract until the end of 2022 with an option to extend. “Today, my dreams come true,” said Michniewicz, who added that he is already concentrating on the play-offs.
Paulo Sousa suddenly resigned from leading the Polish national football team at the end of December. The Polish Football Association started nervously searching for a successor to the Portuguese.
Cezary Kulesza, President of the Polish Football Association (PZPN), announced on Monday that Czesław Michniewicz will lead Polish national football team. Michniewicz is a former coach of the national under-21 team and Legia Warszawa.
“Today, my dreams come true. I am very touched and positive about the duties. Contrary to some opinions, I love to play offensively, but most of all I love to win,” said at the press conference the new Polish national team manager Czesław Michniewicz.
Michniewicz last coached Legia. He reached the Polish championship in the 2020/21 season in Warsaw and advanced with the club to the group stage of the Europa League.
Polish footballers will play in the playoffs for promotion to the World Cup. The Polish team will face Russia in Moscow on March 24. In case of victory, their last rival will be the winner of the match between Sweden and the Czech Republic.
