Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022 will not take place in Russia

The FIVB has taken away Russia’s right to organise this year’s edition of Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022. This is a reaction to the Russian military attack on Ukraine.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has taken Russia the right to organize this year’s Men’s World Championship, reported today. The new host is still unknown.

“Following Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, the FIVB remains gravely concerned by the escalating situation and for the safety of the people of Ukraine. The FIVB Board of Administration has come to the conclusion that it would be impossible to prepare and stage the World Championships in Russia due to the war in Ukraine. It has accordingly decided to remove from Russia the organisation of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship scheduled to be held in August and September 2022,” the statement says.

The championship takes place from 26 August to 11 September.

“The FIVB will seek an alternative host nation(s) to ensure that the global Volleyball Family, including the National Federations, athletes, officials and fans all feel safe and proud to participate in a joyous and peaceful festival of sport,” added.
