Last day of charity book collecting for migrants in Poland

“Libraries Without Borders” is an initiative of creating libraries for refugees and immigrants held in detention centres in Poland. Many places are collecting books, dictionaries and e-readers, but simultaneously there is an online fundraising campaign. The action ends on Sunday, March 13th.

Libraries Without Borders is an action organized by Granica Group activists. They want to help immigrants pleasantly pass the time while waiting for a decision of what will happen to them. The organization wants to provide entertainment as well as education, so they collect not only books but also dictionaries, phrasebooks, art materials, mp3 players and board games like checkers, backgammon, puzzles and card games.

They accept all kinds of books for children and adults, including novels, poetry collections, comics and picture books. They are especially looking for ones in Arabic, Turkish, Kurmanji and Sorani, Farsi, Pashto and Somali. Dictionaries and linguistic textbooks are also welcomed, but they can’t be dedicated to people speaking Polish as their first language. The administrators take in mp3 players to later turn them into audiobook containers.

The products will go to detention centers near Poland’s Eastern border: in Biała Podlaska, Białystok, Czerwony Bór, Krosno Odrzańskie, Kętrzyn, Lesznowola, Przemyśl and Wędrzyn.
