The theme of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is “The Sound of Beauty.” Yesterday there was the first semifinal and now we know the first ten qualifiers for the Saturday night’s Grand Final! Poland will perform tomorrow in the second Semi-Final.
The 66th Italian edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, with the participation of representatives from 40 countries, is extremely firmly embedded in the dramatic geopolitical situation resulting from the war in Ukraine, commentators in the Italian media stress.
As they point out, this event will go down in history for that reason, and the context of the war will certainly influence its course. Russia as an aggressor has been excluded from Eurovision, and the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra with the song “Stefania” dedicated to mothers has long been a favourite.
On Thursday the Polish national Krystian Ochman will come on stage, singing the song “River.”
“Like so many artists, Ochman is very much a product of his upbringing. He’s the son and grandson of musicians whose experiences span multiple genres. Their influences have been absolutely invaluable to Ochman as he takes the family’s musical heritage to the next level.” (Eurovision Song Contest official website)
