Dead fish in Oder River on Polish-German border. Polish government to investigate possible contamination [VIDEO]

Yesterday, the Polish Fishermen’s Association reported that over three tonnes of dead fish have been hauled out of the River Oder as water company officials warned people against entering the river and the Polish government pledged to investigate possible contamination.

“We received the results of those water quality tests on August 3 and, in the meantime, we have already observed much dead fish. We observed the largest one in the channel in the city of Olawa, about a two-kilometre-long channel, where we collected three tonnes 100 kilogrammes of dead fish of various sizes and species,” Robert Suwada, the Head of the Polish Association of Fishermen in Wrocław, said.

A video published by local media showed groups of firefighters clearing the Oława channel from dead fish floating in the river.

Officials at State Water Holding, which manages Polish national waters, said yesterday that about five tonnes of dead fish in total were removed from the town of Oława in southwest Poland.
