Polish labour market remains in a good shape

The labour market remains in good condition, the development and technology minister said commenting on the newest data from Poland’s statistical office.

The Central Statistical Office (GUS) announced on Friday that Poland’s corporate employment increased by 2.3 per cent and the average corporate gross wage rose by 15.8 per cent year on year in July, with both figures at levels which were higher than expected.

Waldemar Buda took to Twitter to report that the number of jobs available in Poland exceeded 6.5 million for the first time.

“Despite signals from companies that they are less willing to hire, the labour market remains in good shape,” he wrote.

According to Buda, “the increase in wages was a positive surprise.”

“This means that wages were rising faster than inflation,” he added.

On August 12, GUS reported in a flash estimate that prices of consumer goods and services increased by 15.6 per cent year on year in July.
