“Lately, I have been observing a rash of interviewees on LCI – either Russians, not bad at speaking French or pro-Russian Frenchmen,” Law and Justice MEP Ryszard Czarnecki said. The pro-Russian and at the same time anti-Polish interview was conducted on the air of the French media giant just the day before the visit of the Prime Minister to Paris.
As early as Monday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will travel to Paris, where he will meet President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. In addition to talks on economic or energy problems, the issue of Ukraine will also be on the agenda.
The French television channel LCI decided to befoul the government in Warsaw just the day before the visit. To this end, it invited Professor Luc Ferry for an evening interview. He is a well-known philosopher, author of several books, former Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) politician and former Minister of Youth, National Education and Research, now identified with the Republicans.
Ryszard Czarnecki, MEP for Law and Justice told the portal Niezalezna about the conversation.
“Lately, I have observed a rash of interviewees on LCI – either Russians, not bad French speakers or pro-Russian Frenchmen. Today, Professor Luc Ferry appeared on this television channel. In my opinion, however, this is not the voice of the Republicans, but the French intellectual elite. It dreams of ‘what if,” the politician analyses.
In the interview Ferry gave, he put forward two theses:
- “the government in Poland is a fascist-populist one”
- “France and Germany should take responsibility for the Ukrainian problem”.
While the first thesis is not worth commenting on, Czarnecki elaborates on the second. “By taking responsibility for the ‘Ukrainian problem,’ Ferry means stifling this ‘problem,’ sacrificing part of Ukrainian territory,” he admits.
He also recalls that “these words come on the day before the Polish Prime Minister visits Paris,” and he adds:
“Is this some kind of attempt to play a game with President Emmanuel Macron?”.
“In French TV LCI (CNN equivalent) the day before the visit of Morawiecki, a scandalous interview, in which Prof. Luc Ferry, former head of Minister of Youth, National Education and Research about “Polish fascist-populist government.” But he is not from Macron’s (party – ed.) but UMP,” Czarnecki wrote on Twitter.

“Apart from the attack on Poland, former Minister Luc Ferry on LCI TV today at 7:00 PM, said several times that the Franco-German alliance must work in EU concerning Ukraine. Already acted: Normandy format!” he added.

According to government spokesman Piotr Müller, the main topic of the Morawiecki-Macron conversation will be bilateral relations and the crucial issues on the European agenda, i.e., the key topics of energy and defence, also in the context of opportunities for Polish-French cooperation. Further support for Ukraine and its citizens will also be discussed.
