    8th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships: 14 medals for Poles in Lima

    Polish swimmers won 14 medals – seven gold, one silver and six bronze – at the 8th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships held in Lima. The championships ended on Sunday. In the Peruvian capital, the Polish swimmers finished third in the medal table, behind Japan and Hungary.

    On the last day of competition in Lima, the Poles stood on the podium as many as five times! The gold medals were won by Krzysztof Chmielewski (200m dolphin) and the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay. The bronze was won by the ladies, who swam in the line-up of Laura Bernat, Karolina Piechowicz, Paulina Cierpiałowska, and Julia Kulik. The third individual bronze was also won by Masiuk – after victories in the 50m and 100m backstroke, this time he was third in the 200m backstroke.

     

    “Ksawery Masiuk is back helping the new generation of swimmers rewrite the record books by posting a new Championship Record at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships 2022. Poland’s Masiuk won the 50m backstroke in 24.44, a new championship record,” we can read on the FINA website

    Ksawery Masiuk also won two gold medals individually (50m and 100m backstroke) and one bronze in the 200m backstroke. In the relays, he added two golds (mixed 4x100m freestyle and men’s 4x100m freestyle) and one bronze (4x200m freestyle).

     

    Piechowicz, meanwhile, won three golds in the 50m and 100m classic and the mixed 4x100m alternating relay, and a bronze in the women’s 4x100m relay.

     

     

    “The FINA World Junior Swimming Championships 2022 staged in Lima, Peru over six (6) days with preliminary heats in the morning sessions and the semi-finals and finals in the evening session. 

     

    The venue for the competition was the VIDENA Aquatic Center. This venue hosted the XVIII Pan American and Parapan American Games Lima 2019, the Lima 2021 South American Youth Aquatic Sports Championship and the FINA Water Polo World League Intercontinental Cup 2022.” (fina.org)
