Short-range missile defence system was received by Polish army

Poland’s defence minister officially handed over the “small Narew” short-range defence system to Polish armed forces in the eastern city of Zamosc on Tuesday.

Mariusz Blaszczak attended the ceremony together with his British counterpart, Ben Wallace.

Poland and the UK have cooperated in the development of the “small Narew” system, Blaszczak said, as the “short-range anti-aircraft and anti-missile launchers are based on the British technology.”

The system consists of Polish radars and trucks and British missiles and launchers.

The two ministers also signed a deal on the development of another Polish short-range air defence system, Pilica, which will be equipped with British CAMM missiles.

“The two systems, together with Patriots, will constitute a very strong defence of skies over Poland and will provide a very effective response when it comes to such threats as cruise missiles,” Blaszczak said.
