Angel wings (Polish faworki, chruściki or chrusty) – a quick Polish sweet to amaze your guests on Fat Thursday

Faworki (sometimes called chrusty or chruściki) is a simple Polish sweet made from wheat flour, deep-fried and sprinkled with powdered sugar. This dish is most often associated with Fat Thursday (Fat Tuesday in the U.S.). Check the recipe!

    Ingredients:

    1,5 cups of flour
    0,5 cup of powdered sugar
    a packet of vanilla sugar
    a pinch of salt
    4 egg yolks
1 teaspoon of vinegar or spirit
    3 tablespoons of sour cream

    Recipe:

    1. Use the given ingredients to make a flexible dough.
    2. Fold, roll and knock out with a pestle several times (blisters should appear on the surface). Cover with a cloth and set aside for an hour.
    3. Cut off pieces and sprinkle lightly with flour. Roll out as thin as possible.
    4. Then cut the dough into about 4 cm (1.57 in) wide strips and make a small hole through the middle of each strip. Then, weave one end of each strip through the hole to make a small knot.
    5. Heat the lard properly in a flat pot. Once it has been heated to about 350º Fahrenheit you can begin frying the angel wings. Fry several wings at the same time. Remove with a fork, put on a strainer or a paper towel to drain.
Sprinle drained but still hot angel wings with powdered sugar mixed with vanilla sugar. They taste he best right after baking or after about two days.

    Enjoy!
