“Month after month we are insulted, attacked, and even threatened with death. The police have a duty to intervene, but they do not. We are dealing with thugs of the ruling party. Those responsible for today’s disturbances will be held accountable,” said Law and Justice (PiS) Chairman Jarosław Kaczyński.
A group of agitators prevented Law and Justice (PiS) politicians from laying flowers at the monument of the late President Professor Lech Kaczyński. Despite repeated appeals, police officers did not allow the group to approach the monument directly.
Speaking to Jarosław Kaczyński, journalist Wojciech Szymczak asked why the police had made that decision.
“The police argued that the other group had a registered event there. Very bad people are abusing the law today,” Kaczyński replied.
He continued: “Month after month we are insulted, attacked, and even threatened with death. The police have a duty to intervene, but they do not. We are dealing with thugs of the ruling party. Those responsible for today’s disturbances will be held accountable. Furthermore, it will have to be determined whether they are acting on their own or on behalf of Russia or another foreign state. That would constitute a serious criminal offense. We will tighten the Criminal Code – the penalty for such actions will be life imprisonment.”
Kaczyński also declared: “When we return to power, normality will return. People will once again be able to lay wreaths here.”
As they do every month, members of parliament from Law and Justice (PiS) gathered today at Piłsudski Square in Warsaw to pay tribute to the victims of the 2010 Polish government plane crash, in which the late President of Poland Lech Kaczyński and 95 other people lost their lives.
