Ministry expects a budget-revenue decrease in the following months

The Polish budget closed September with a PLN 27.5-billion (EUR-5.8 billion) surplus, but the results are expected to drop considerably in the months to come, the finance ministry reported on Tuesday.

Lukasz Czernicki, the ministry’s chief economist, told the Polish Press Agency that at about PLN 38 billion (EUR 8 billion), September’s budget revenue was about PLN 2 billion (EUR 418 million) down year on year.

Czernicki warned that budget income will fall visibly in the coming months, among others due to the need to finance aid for households and enterprises affected by rising energy prices.

He added that the aid programmes were expected to cost the budget up to PLN 10 billion (EUR 2.1 billion) this year.
