The beginning of November is, as usual, a time when we remember those who have passed away. We visit the graves of the deceased from our families and circle of friends. Each year we also say goodbye to many people who are widely known. In 2022, notable figures from the world of culture, sports, politics and the church passed away. Also on their graves, candles will be lit and flowers will appear as a sign that although they have died, they are still present in our memories.

Andrzej Nowak
Polish guitarist, composer and music producer. He was one of the founders of the band ‘TSA’, as well as the leader and founder of the rock band ‘Złe Psy’. He collaborated with Martyna Jakubowicz and Tadeusz Nalepa, among others.
He died on 4 January 2022. He was 62 years old.

Zbigniew Namysłowski
Polish jazz saxophonist, composer and arranger. He worked with Krzysztof Komeda, Czesław Niemen, Władysław ‘Adzik’ Sendecki, Michał Urbaniak, Janusz Muniak, Krzysztof Herdzin and Leszek Możdżer, among others.
He died on 7 February 2022. He was 82 years old.

Karol “Pjus” Nowakowski
Polish rapper associated with the band 2cztery7 since 2001. In 2004, he was diagnosed with a rare disease that affected, among other things, his cochlear nerves. As a result of treatments, the rapper lost his hearing, which was restored thanks to bilateral truncal implants – thus Nowakowski became the world’s first person with digital hearing. The rapper’s first solo album, entitled Life After Deaf, was released in 2009.
He died on 12 January 2022. He was 39 years old.

Daniel Passent
Polish journalist and columnist. He is best known as a long-time columnist for the weekly magazine Polityka. He was also a writer, translator and satirist. He worked, among others, with the “Pod Egidą” cabaret led by Jan Pietrzak. From 1997 to 2002, he was the Polish ambassador to Chile.
He died on 14 February 2022. He was 83 years old.

Witold Paszt
Polish singer, he was the founder and singer of the band Vox. In recent years, he appeared in popular TV variety shows, including ‘Dancing with the Stars’, and also appeared in the series ‘Klinika samotnych serc’ and the film ‘Planeta singli 2’.
He passed away on 18 February 2022. He was 68 years old.

Andrzej Korzyński
Polish composer, arranger and pianist, member of the Polish Film Academy. He composed music for films by Andrzej Żuławski, Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Gruza and Krzysztof Gradowski, among others. He was the creator of the character Frank Kimono, popular in the 1980s, played by actor Piotr Fronczewski. In 1991, in turn, he wrote the words to the song ‘Mydełko Fa’ performed by Marlena Drozdowska and Marek Kondrat.
He died on 18 April 2022. He was 82 years old.

Ludwik Dorn
Polish politician and publicist. A democratic opposition activist during the communist period. From 1997 to 2015, he was a Member of the Sejm of the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh terms, co-founder of the Law and Justice party and its vice-president from 2001 to 2007. From 2005 to 2007, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration in the governments of Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jarosław Kaczyński. In 2007, Speaker of the Sejm of the fifth term. The recipient of the Order of the White Eagle.
He died on 7 April 2022. He was 67 years old.

Jerzy Trela
Polish theatre, film and television actor and teacher, professor of theatre arts. He worked with such artists as Jerzy Jarocki, Andrzej Wajda, Konrad Swinarski, Kazimierz Kutz and Krystian Lupa. For almost his entire career he was associated with the Old Theatre in Krakow. He was a professor and lecturer and between 1984 and 1990 the rector of the Ludwik Solski State Higher School of Theatre.
He died on 15 May 2022. He was 80 years old.

Waldemar Paruch
Polish political scientist, academic teacher and politician, professor of social sciences, and professor at Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin. In 2018, he became the plenipotentiary of the Prime Minister for the establishment and operation of the Centre for Strategic Analysis, which he headed until December 2019.
He died on 8 May 2022. He was 57 years old.

Tadeusz Gołębiewski
Polish entrepreneur, one of the richest Poles. He was the founder of the confectionery company Tago and the chain of Gołębiewski hotels, including those in Wisłą, Mikołajki, Karpacz and Pobierowo.
He died on 21 June 2022. He was 79 years old.

Czesław Cybulski
Polish athletics coach, specialising in the hammer throw. His athletes included Szymon Ziolkowski, whom he led to the title of Olympic champion (2000) and world champion (2001); Anita Wlodarczyk; Paweł Fajdek, whom he led to the world title in 2013 and 2015; Joanna Fiodorow, and for a short time Kamila Skolimowska at the turn of 2003 and 2004.
He died on 3 August 2022. He was 87 years old.

Franciszek Pieczka
Polish theatre, film and dubbing actor. The recipient of the Order of the White Eagle. He played in over a hundred films, both Polish and foreign. He is remembered for his roles in the following films: “The Promised Land”, “Deluge”, “Quo Vadis”, “Konopielka” or “Johnnie Aquarius”. He gained a lot of popularity and sympathy thanks to the role of Gustlik in the series ‘Czterej pancerni i pies’.
He died on 23 September 2022. He was 94 years old.

Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz
He was one of the best-known contemporary poets. In 2000, he received the Nike Literary Award for his volume of poetry ‘Znak niejasny, baśń półżywa’, and in 2003 the same award for his volume of poetry ‘Zachód słońca w Milanówku’. He was also involved in historical and literary essay writing, in which he focused primarily on the period of Polish Romanticism and Polish history.
He died on 3 February 2022. He was 86 years old.

Marian Zembala
Polish physician, cardiac surgeon, professor of medical sciences, former Minister of Health, and MP for the Sejm. He was, inter alia, director of the Silesian Centre for Heart Diseases in Zabrze and president of the Polish Transplantation Society. In his professional work, he specialised in heart and lung transplantation, in 1997 he was the first in Poland to perform a single lung transplantation, and in 2001 he was the first in Poland to transplant a lung-heart patient.
He died on 19 March 2022. He was 72 years old.

Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland of the Windsor dynasty from 6 February 1952 (crowned 2 June 1953) to 8 September 2022. Her reign, which lasted 70 years and 214 days, is the longest of any British monarch and the longest recorded reign by a female head of state.
She died on 8 September 2022. She was 96 years old.

Barbara Krafftówna
Polish theatre and film actress, cabaret artist and singer. She became famous for her role in the television series ‘Czterej Pancerni i Pies’. Krafftówna received many awards and distinctions. In 1964, she came first in the “Kurier Polski” poll for the most popular actress on the Polish screen. On 11 November 2019, President Andrzej Duda decorated Barbara Krafftówna with the Commander’s Cross with the Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
She died on the night of 22 to 23 January at the Veteran Artist Home in Skolimow. She was 93 years old.
