During the opening ceremony of the restored Olympic Club in Cracow, President Andrzej Duda was honoured with the highest award Olympic Gold Order by the Head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach.

The Polish Olympic Committee was established on October 12, 1919 in the conference hall of the Francuska Hotel in Cracow. POC is an autonomous, nationwide association of sports federations and organizations. Its head office is in Warsaw. The POC independently sets its goals, draws up its action programs, defines its organizational structures, and adopts the rules and forms of carrying out its activities in accordance with its Statutes, the Olympic Charter, and International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidelines. It organizes the participation of the Polish Olympic Team in the Olympic Games.

President Andrzej Duda believes that sport will flourish in Poland and in the restored club in Cracow is a place where people will be able to feel the Olympic spirit. Moreover, he strongly believes that many Poles deserve the extraordinary merit the Olympic Gold Order but our country needs to provide them with suitable conditions to develop their talents.
