“In 2023, we are allocating nearly 4% of GDP to the development of our army. Huge orders for new equipment for the army require an efficient industry at the highest level,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said. During his visit to Huta Stalowa Wola, he announced a decision to invest PLN 600 million in its development.
A further PLN 1.2 billion is planned, which will also go to Polish plants and arms factories. The additional funds for the arms industry will increase the production of modern military vehicles for the Polish Army.
Funding for the Huta Stalowa Wola consortium
Over PLN 600 million – this is how much the first instalment for the expansion of Huta Stalowa Wola will amount to. This investment includes the expansion and modernisation of the infrastructure and machinery used for production.
“I have decided to capitalise the entire Huta Stalowa Wola consortium in the amount of PLN 600 million and this is the first instalment. The next instalment will be PLN 1 billion 200 million, not only here in Stalowa Wola, but also, for example, PLN 100 million for the recapitalisation of Autosan in the Podkarpacie region, so that we can produce tank destroyers, so much needed today on the modern battlefield,”
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.
The modernised Huta Stalowa Wola will primarily mean increased production of Polish AHS Krabs (NATO-compatible self-propelled tracked gun-howitzer), infantry fighting vehicles Borsuk or self-propelled wheeled gun-mortar M120 Rak. The steelworks will also be ready to produce vehicles under foreign licences for our army. This means that the latest military technology in the world, will from now on be produced in Poland.
We order Polish weapons and support the Polish arms industry
Poland’s security and independence are paramount values. This is why this year Poland is allocating nearly 4 per cent of the country’s GDP to the groundbreaking modernisation of the Polish army. The immediate goal is to fully replace Soviet-designed vehicles, which are currently in the stock of some units, with the latest NATO-compliant vehicles, including Polish designs.
“Here, our engineers, our designers, our technicians, and our employees are building, designing, and constructing the most modern equipment that will be used by the Polish army. This is an excellent achievement of recent years,”
the head of government stressed.
Above all, we want new equipment for the Polish Army to be manufactured in Poland. That is why today Poland is investing additional hundreds of millions of zlotys in the Polish arms industry. Thanks to this, Polish plants such as the Huta Stalowa Wola will be able to develop further and record profits.
“I congratulate and thank, above all, the employees of Polish factories, those producing Polish weapons or very modern weapons produced in Polish factories under foreign licence. So, the integrated production of Polish plants within NATO,”
the Prime Minister added.
State-of-the-art equipment of Polish production
The flagship product of the Polish arms industry is currently the AHS Krab howitzers, which the Polish armed forces have ordered 48 units for the near future. An innovative project of the infantry fighting vehicles Borsuk for the Polish army is also being developed, with the potential to produce up to 100 units a year. We are also producing modern self-propelled wheeled gun mortars, M120 Rak. Production of all these vehicles will be increased.
“What is this capital being used for? Firstly, Stalowa Wola is producing Krabs. The Krabs are state-of-the-art mobile howitzers that perform very well in Ukraine, on the modern battlefield. Today, we increased the order to 48 units, but the Huta Stalowa Wola is capable of producing 50 Krabs a year,”
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.
“We are increasing production to the maximum to produce for the needs of the Polish army. These will be Krabs also prepared for export, as this is a product that is very much in demand around the world today,”
the head of government added.
At the same time, Poland also produces in Stalowa Wola:
- self-propelled multiple rocket launchers WR-40 Langusta,
- Baobab-K mine-laying vehicles,
- many types of engineering vehicles,
- reconnaissance vehicles,
- command vehicles,
- transport vehicles
- components for the above-mentioned vehicles.
