On August 6th, the grand opening of Szczecin’s Polish Theatre will take place after extensive renovation and expansion, made possible with significant support from European funds. The establishment has been enriched with three new stages, providing nearly 1,200 seats for the audience in the newly added part of the building. The current artistic season has planned 12 premieres.
The new artistic season at the Polish Theatre will commence in August, with ticket sales for performances starting on July 15th.
“We decided to start the artistic season earlier. In Szczecin, there will be a theatrical offensive from the beginning of August. We hope that not only the residents of the region but also tourists will participate in the planned artistic events,”
said Olgierd Geblewicz, the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, during a press conference.
After the renovation and expansion, the theater now boasts five modern stages.
“It will be one of the most modern and interesting facilities in Poland and this part of Europe. It was worth waiting so many years to be able to enjoy a stage of this caliber now,”
emphasized Marshal Olgierd Geblewicz.
The new section of the facility includes the Shakespeare Stage (with 549 seats), the Italian Stage (with 508 seats), and the Chamber Stage (with 120 seats). Meanwhile, the historic theater building houses two stages: the Jan Banucha Stage (with 236 seats) and the Parish of the Black Cat’s Traitors Stage (with 80 seats).
An rooftop garden and café are planned for the theater building.
“This roof will be an attraction in itself. This space will surely come alive and be an interesting meeting place,”
said the Marshal.
The total cost of the investment amounted to approximately PLN 200 million, with PLN 150 million allocated for the construction of the new building, and approximately PLN 50 million for the restoration of the historic part of the theater. Financial support from European funds through the Regional Operational Program of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship 2014-2020 reached around PLN 80 million.
