George Simion: Nawrocki Is My Partner in a Europe of Sovereign Nations

In an interview with The American Conservative, Romanian right-wing leader and presidential candidate George Simion named Karol Nawrocki as a key ally in shaping a Europe of sovereign nations. Their shared vision is not only a political alliance but a joint defense of Christian values, national sovereignty, and constitutional order—elements they see as under threat from EU centralism and the liberal elite’s revolution.

Nawrocki as a Symbol of a Sovereign Poland

Simion, representing the AUR party in Romania’s rerun presidential election, openly declared Nawrocki a natural partner in the push for a new European order. Their alignment, he noted, goes beyond the coincidence of election dates—May 18, when both Poles and Romanians face pivotal choices—and signals a deeper political project.

“I am proud to call Karol Nawrocki—a close ally and likely successor to President Andrzej Duda—a friend. Together, we could become two presidents aligned with the MAGA movement, committed to revitalizing our partnership with the United States and reinforcing stability on NATO’s eastern flank,” said Simion.

To Simion, Nawrocki represents a crucial figure in the emerging balance of power in Europe: a proponent of strong national identity and a vocal critic of EU overreach. During their joint rally in Zabrze, Nawrocki left no room for doubt:

“Together, if George wins, and together, if we win, dear friends, on May 18 we will build a Europe of values, a Europe of nations, where we will not let the EU centralize and turn Poland and Romania into its provinces.”

MEGA: A European Answer to MAGA

Simion also announced the creation of a new political movement: MEGA—Make Europe Great Again—a direct response to Elon Musk’s January post on X, where he wrote: “From MAGA to MEGA.”

“We’ve already issued him the first membership card,” Simion revealed to the conservative magazine.

He also highlighted growing collaboration among national-conservative parties across the EU, including Poland’s PiS, Italy’s Brothers of Italy, Hungary’s Fidesz, France’s National Rally, Germany’s AfD, and Poland’s Confederation. Together, he argued, these parties could form a cohesive value-based bloc.

“All three conservative groupings are gaining ground across the EU’s 27 member states. I believe they are our natural allies in Europe,” said Simion.

European Elites vs. the Will of the People

Simion didn’t hold back in criticizing EU leaders like Emmanuel Macron and Ursula von der Leyen.

“They fear us—and rightly so. They will lose power, and they will lose it through a democratic process, in line with the will of the people,” he said, calling for a break from a technocratic Europe detached from the real concerns of citizens.
Restoring Constitutional Order

A key part of the interview focused on democratic irregularities in Romania. Simion denounced the annulment of the November presidential elections—won by candidate Calin Georgescu—as a clear manipulation by those in power, citing alleged “external interference” as a pretext.

Simion not only challenged the legitimacy of the cancellation but pledged to rehabilitate Georgescu.

“He was the most popular candidate among Romanians, and he has the right to hold any office he chooses. But first, we must restore democracy, constitutional order, and the rule of law,” he said.
This mirrors Nawrocki’s stance, as both view the state not as a weapon against opponents, but as a protector of liberty and lawful governance.

An Alliance Built on Values

George Simion and Karol Nawrocki are more than political allies—they are representatives of a new wave of leadership prioritizing national identity, Christian values, strong statehood, and grassroots democracy. With both countries heading to the polls on the same day, May 18 could mark the beginning of a new chapter for Europe: one where nations resist becoming mere backdrops to decisions made in Brussels boardrooms.
