Russian Ambassador Summoned by Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Over Putin’s Provocative Statements

In response to provocative remarks made by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Ambassador to Poland was urgently summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ) on Saturday. The situation escalated as the Polish government expressed concern over Putin’s threatening statements towards Poland and its allies. The meeting between the Russian Ambassador and the MSZ officials was brief, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

    The “NATO umbrella”

On Friday, Putin’s speech at the Security Council meeting was broadcast on Russian television. He made remarks about Polish leaders, suggesting that they want to form a coalition under the “NATO umbrella” and directly engage in the conflict in Ukraine to then "seize" a broader piece of land, namely Western Ukraine, which they consider to be their historical territories. Following a televised speech by Putin on Friday, in which he made controversial statements about Polish leaders and historical territorial claims, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced his intention to summon the Russian Ambassador to MSZ. Morawiecki explicitly labeled Stalin as a war criminal responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Poles, leading to further tensions between the two countries.

Later on Friday, Prime Minister Morawiecki reiterated his stance on Twitter, condemning Stalin’s atrocities and emphasizing that Poland would not forget historical truths. The tweet further fueled the ongoing dispute between Poland and Russia.
