The Polish government has announced a significant increase in energy consumption limits, maintaining frozen prices from 2022. These changes aim to alleviate household burdens. Residential limits will rise to 3000 kWh (previously 2000 kWh), while farmers and families with the Large Family Card will enjoy a higher threshold of 4000 kWh (up from 3000 kWh).
Wojciech Dąbrowski, CEO of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, noted that Polish households benefit from some of Europe’s lowest electricity prices. PGE’s contribution of 10 billion PLN in 2023, combined with government support, could lead to annual household savings of up to 4000 PLN.
Beneficiaries of the Solidarity Shield will experience higher limits automatically, without the need for documentation. Individuals who become eligible for the increased limits during 2023 must submit a declaration within 30 days to activate the benefits, otherwise, the expanded limits will apply from the next calendar month.
Exceeding the set limits will trigger a preferential maximum price of 693 PLN (net price without excise) per 1000 kWh. The Solidarity Shield also encourages energy conservation. A reduction of at least 10% in electricity consumption between October 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023, compared to the same period the previous year, will earn consumers a 10% discount on electricity costs in 2024.
