Discover how AI is transforming the automotive industry and its impact on the Polish economy. Insights from the 2023 Moto Idea Conference.
The 13th edition of the Moto Idea Conference, held in Bielany Wrocławskie, shed light on the digital revolution sweeping through the automotive industry, labor market, and the economic prospects for Poland. Keynote speaker Paweł Borys, President of the Polish Development Fund (PFR), outlined six pivotal global economic trends set to shape the future: regionalized production, AI-driven technological revolution, shifts in the global economy due to rising inflation and interest rates, energy transformation, an aging population in developed countries, and current geopolitical tensions.
Borys emphasized the long-term challenges these trends pose, while offering an optimistic short-term economic outlook for Poland. He predicted a return to 3.5-4% stable growth by the following year, primarily fueled by consumer spending.
The automotive industry, which contributes 11% to Poland’s GDP and saw a 22% growth in exports to $14 billion in 2022, is well-positioned to embrace technological advances. Dr. Christina Yan Zhang, President of the Metaverse Institute, highlighted the potential for the automotive sector’s growth in emerging markets, where 85% of the global population resides.
Dr. Zhang also stressed that AI adoption will play a significant role in the industry’s future. McKinsey predicts that by 2030, 95% of new vehicles worldwide will feature AI systems, boosting advanced driver assistance systems by approximately 64%.
The application of “digital twins,” which simulate machinery and production processes, promises to optimize operations and reduce costs, a sentiment echoed by industry leaders at the conference.
While technology may change the nature of certain jobs, Artur Migoń, VP of HR firm Antal, stressed the importance of upskilling and reskilling to adapt to the evolving job landscape.
The conference also addressed Poland’s need for foreign labor, particularly from Ukraine, and the shift towards hiring highly-educated individuals.
Regarding the future of electric vehicles, the “Moto Barometer 2023” report revealed that improving charging infrastructure and providing incentives like purchase subsidies and tax benefits are key factors in increasing electric car sales. It also underscored Poland’s room for improvement in this regard compared to other European countries.
In summary, the 2023 Moto Idea Conference highlighted the pivotal role of AI in driving the automotive industry’s transformation, offering opportunities for Poland’s economy, while acknowledging the need for adaptation and investment to maximize its potential in the global landscape.
