Visiting the Ukraine Polish President Andrzej Duda today met the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. In order to emphasize the importance of bilateral relations, both presidents signed a joint declaration signifying a strategic partnership. Both presidents also confirmed their readiness to engage in dialogue on their countries’ common, and at times difficult, history.
“Poland and Ukraine have to live in peace, friendship and common respect. We always have to remember that many enemies of ours want to play us against each other. We can say one thing – it’s not going to happen. I’m convinced that there won’t be any disputes between our countries.” said the Ukrainian head of state, Volodomyr Zelensky.
“I’m very happy that I could pay tribute to the Polish and Ukrainian victims, because both of our nations suffered and were persecuted during Stalin’s regime which tried to destroy them. I’m very satisfied that today, we could talk about the current situation and our further cooperation, the path of which, we indicated in the declaration we’ve just signed. This declaration clearly shows our attitude towards the current situation, and the most important matters, including economic, political, matters regarding safety which are very important today, and also historic matters which, I believe, despite all hurtful aspects of our history, will help our nations to strengthen our relationship, because we are neighbors, and we are friends.” followed the Polish president, Andrzej Duda.
