Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin emphasized the significance of the planned nuclear power plant in Konin-Pątnów, asserting its alignment with Poland’s energy strategy and its crucial role in national energy security. The decision to proceed with the project was underscored as Minister Anna Moskwa issued a fundamental approval on November 24, following a proposal from PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa in collaboration with Korean company KHNP. The plant, slated for construction in Konin-Pątnów, is expected to contribute significantly to Poland’s energy independence.

Minister Jacek Sasin highlighted that the fundamental approval paves the way for the project, enabling the responsible company to seek the necessary environmental and technical permits. The nuclear power plant, anticipated to be operational by 2035, will feature at least two APR1400 reactors with a combined capacity of 2800 MW.

In addition to the large-scale plant, Minister Sasin emphasized Poland’s focus on small reactors, with Orlen Synthos Green Energy submitting a proposal for six small reactors. The Ministry of State Assets will provide opinions to the Ministry of Climate and Environment in compliance with statutory requirements for these smaller nuclear investments.
