    Breakthrough Year for Organ Transplants in Wrocław’s University Hospital

    The University Clinical Hospital (USK) in Wrocław, Poland, achieved a remarkable milestone in 2023 with a total of 114 organ transplants, solidifying its position as a leading transplant center in the country. The hospital, renowned for its cardiac and general surgery departments, performed 45 heart, 63 kidney, and 6 liver transplants.

    A Leader in Organ Transplants

    The USK, a pioneer in transplantation since the first kidney transplant in 1983 and liver transplant in 1993, surpassed 2,500 kidney and several hundred liver transplants to date. Professor Dariusz Janczak, the Prorector for Clinical Affairs at the University Medical Center, emphasized the institution’s commitment to organ transplants as a top priority.

    Cardiac Surgery Excellence

    Dr. Roman Przybylski, Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart Transplantation, highlighted the center’s leading position in cardiac surgeries, attributing it to minimal postoperative complications. Patients no longer face long waiting times, experiencing surgeries promptly in Wrocław instead of other major cities.

    Optimal Results in 2023

    Professor Michal Zakliczyński, Head of the Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support Clinic, praised the record-breaking 45 transplantations in 2023 as the best in the center’s history. He emphasized the importance of not just quantity but quality, with exceptionally positive outcomes contributing to a successful year for transplantology in Poland.
