No new solutions to the rule of law issue

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki spoke with Angela Merkel on Friday in the form of a videoconference. “In the conversation between Prime Minister and the German Chancellor, there were no new proposals regarding the conditionality mechanism in the European Union budget,” government spokesman Piotr Müller said.

The government spokesman said at a briefing in the Polish Sejm that during the videoconference with the German Chancellor, the Prime Minister maintained his position regarding the Polish government’s opposition to linking payments from the EU budget with the issue of the rule of law.

“We do not agree, and we have been emphasizing this for some time, to link the EU funds with biased, arbitrary criteria,” Müller emphasized.

He added that the arguments of the Polish government had been heard by the German chancellor.

“We are awaiting issues related to other, possible proposals. No new proposal has emerged in this regard,” a government spokesman said.
