Today, Poland is beginning to take its rightful place as an important force in the European Union, and certainly, as the leader of Central and Eastern Europe (…) What I saw confirmed my conviction that Poland is on the right path, also in terms of ensuring its security – said Georgette Mosbacher, for whom this is the last day of her diplomatic mission as US Ambassador to Poland, in an interview with wp.pl.
In an interview with wp.pl, Georgette Mosbacher, the outgoing US ambassador to Poland, admitted that she was convinced that ‘Poland is on the right path’.
‘Today, Poland is beginning to take its rightful place as an important force in the European Union, and certainly as the leader of Central and Eastern Europe. This evolution is something unique, not least in terms of the speed at which it is taking place,’ the Ambassador said. She acknowledged that she intended to ‘continue to work for Polish-American relations.’
Mosbacher said Poland would play ‘one of the most important roles’ in its region of the world in the next decade.
‘I feel like we don’t fully appreciate in America that your homeland got back on its feet so quickly after the fall of the Iron Curtain. We also have no idea where it started from. During this time, you have managed to build a strong democracy and create a middle class. I’ll also be telling you that Poland is a technologically developed country and a key US ally – vital to the strength of NATO’s eastern flank, being at the heart of China’s trade route to the west of the continent. With all this you behave very sensibly, investing in your military and energy security,’ she said in an interview with wp.pl.
Pointing to the achievements of which she feels the greatest pride, Georgette Mosbacher enumerated the abolition of visas, the location in Poland of the US 5th Corps Command, the development of the Three Seas Initiative and ‘the progress we have made in Polish energy security, from coal to LNG and solar energy and in the future – to nuclear energy’.
‘In a year you will be energy independent from Russia, this is a big achievement’ – she said.
