Mid-Summer Struggles: Weekend Tourists Frustrate Hoteliers

Weekend tourists fill up beaches and trails, frustrating hoteliers with short stays. August looks promising for bookings.

Although bookings have increased compared to last year, it’s hard to call it a success. Despite great weather, beaches, and mountain trails are crowded only on weekends. August looks promising, but short reservations won’t significantly help hoteliers, according to Nocowanie.pl’s mid-season analysis.

    Weekend Rush

The holiday season has passed its midpoint, and the local accommodation industry had higher hopes. In most tourist destinations, especially mid-week, “vacant rooms” signs are common, Nocowanie.pl reports.

    Short Stays

In coastal towns like Kołobrzeg and Władysławowo, weekend occupancy reached 93% and 80% respectively. However, weekdays tell a different story. The trend of short, weekend getaways persists, with tourists often opting for single-day trips.

    August Optimism

Despite shorter average stays this year (3.3 days), August bookings have doubled compared to last year. Prices are similar to last year, with Kołobrzeg and Krynica Morska averaging 114 PLN per night. The upcoming long weekend (August 15-18) is expected to see a surge, with Zakopane, Kudowa-Zdrój, and Karpacz as top choices.
