President Duda Travels to Paris to Support Polish Volleyball Team in Olympic Final

President Andrzej Duda has made his way to Paris to show his support for the Polish men’s volleyball team as they gear up for their Olympic final, set to take place at 1:00 PM. The news was confirmed by Małgorzata Paprocka, head of the Presidential Office.

The Polish volleyball team is on the brink of competing for what could be their third Olympic gold in team sports and their eighth overall medal. The team’s legacy includes historic victories, with their predecessors having topped the Olympic podium in Montreal in 1976 and the Polish football team securing gold four years earlier in Munich.

Nearly five decades ago, the team, under the guidance of the late coach Hubert Jerzy Wagner, carved out a place in history by defeating South Korea 3:2, Canada 3:0, and Cuba 3:2. They then overcame Czechoslovakia 3:1 to lead their qualifying group. The Polish squad’s winning streak continued with a five-set triumph over Japan and a tense 3:2 victory against the USSR in the final. Their knack for emerging victorious in tight matches earned them the nickname “Masters of the Fifth Set.”
