PKP Intercity terminates sponsorship with PKOl over trust issues and unfulfilled commitments following post-Olympics controversies.
PKP Intercity has officially terminated its sponsorship agreement with the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), effective immediately, citing a loss of trust.
The agreement, signed in August 2023, was intended to last until 2027. However, PKP Intercity announced that the failure of PKOl to fulfill key sponsorship commitments resulted in marketing losses for the company.
Controversies Surrounding PKOl
Following the Paris Olympics, controversies emerged around PKOl officials, damaging PKP Intercity’s public image. These issues, combined with ongoing investigations into PKOl’s financial management, led to the decision. Currently, Warsaw’s mayor and the National Revenue Administration are conducting separate audits of the organization.
Broader Sponsorship Issues
The news comes on the heels of Polish Airports terminating its sponsorship with PKOl, though PKOl has contested the legal validity of that decision. Additionally, the Minister of Sport has called for an audit of PKOl’s financial activities.
