Flood Situation in Lubuskie: Odra River on Alert

Flood situation in Lubuskie: Bóbr River subsides, while Odra River braces for a prolonged peak flood wave.

Flood conditions in the Lubuskie region are gradually improving, especially along the Bóbr River. After reaching alarm levels in several areas, water levels are now receding. Authorities are focusing on recovery efforts in towns like Żagań and Szprotawa, where low-lying areas were temporarily flooded.

While the Bóbr River’s peak flood wave has passed, attention is now shifting to the Odra River. The flood crest has already reached the Odra, and residents and local services are preparing for its impact. Measures such as reinforcing levees and placing sandbags in vulnerable areas are ongoing.

Unlike the Bóbr, where the flood peak lasted only a few hours, Odra’s crest is expected to remain for several days, potentially weakening levees. Local authorities are cautiously optimistic, especially with hydrological forecasts suggesting a less severe flood than in 1997.
