The President of Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has filed charges against Whaleco Technology Limited, an Irish company operating the Temu shopping platform in Poland. UOKiK has raised concerns about the lack of clear information provided to consumers regarding their rights and the responsibilities of the platform.
Transparency Issues on Temu’s Platform
UOKiK highlighted the platform’s failure to clearly distinguish between purchases from businesses and individuals, creating confusion about who is responsible for the sale. The accessibility of seller information is also problematic, often requiring multiple clicks to reach key details, some of which are presented in Chinese.
Potential Consequences for Whaleco
If UOKiK’s allegations are confirmed, Whaleco Technology Limited faces a fine of up to 10% of its turnover. The investigation also examines the presentation of prices and other information relevant to consumer protection.
