Poland’s President Andrzej Duda emphasized his country’s commitment to a fair, nuclear-supported energy transition at the COP29 climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. He stressed that Poland’s approach integrates both economic growth and climate goals, marking a journey he began with the ratification of the Paris Agreement in 2016 and a focus on social sustainability in the energy sector.
Commitment to Just Transition
At the COP24 conference in Katowice, Poland initiated the concept of a “just transition” to ensure climate policies support current social needs. President Duda reiterated that Poland’s energy shift will not come at the expense of its citizens’ well-being. A ministerial declaration, “Forests for Climate,” was also adopted to protect biodiversity, a key factor in Poland’s environmental strategy.
President Duda highlighted Poland’s ambitions to develop a stable nuclear energy sector, referencing a commitment signed last year in Dubai to triple global nuclear capacity. He expressed confidence that nuclear power is essential for delivering clean, stable energy and meeting global climate goals.
COP29 gathered leaders from around the world under the theme “Solidarity for a Green World.” During the summit, President Duda engaged in bilateral talks with key figures, including the President of Azerbaijan, discussing future economic and energy collaborations.
