Recent data from the OECD reveals Poland is one of the top countries experiencing sharp food price increases. Ranking third globally in September 2024, behind only Turkey and Israel, Poland saw a year-over-year rise of 4.7%. This figure surpasses the OECD average by a full percentage point, marking Poland as the European leader in food inflation.
Soaring Prices Across Categories
According to UCE Research, food prices in Poland continued to climb in October 2024, with an average increase of 5.4% year-over-year. Vegetables and fruits led the surge, rising by 10.8% and 10.1%, respectively. Other notable increases included non-alcoholic beverages (9.6%), sweets and desserts (8.6%), and bread (5.7%). Out of 17 monitored categories, 16 reported price hikes.
A Persistent Problem
Government statistics align with independent findings, highlighting the enduring trend of rising prices. The October inflation rate for food and beverages reached 4.9% year-over-year, emphasizing the ongoing burden on Polish households as inflation shows no signs of abating.
