Avalanche risk in Karkonosze closes key trails. Learn about closures, current conditions, and alternative winter routes. Stay safe!
Hazardous Conditions in Karkonosze
The Karkonosze National Park (KPN) has issued a first-degree avalanche warning in collaboration with the Mountain Rescue Service (GOPR). As a precaution, popular summer trails intersecting avalanche paths have been closed. Warning signs have been placed at these trails, with barriers and additional signage to follow shortly.
Current conditions include -6°C, dense fog, and visibility reduced to just 30 meters. Strong, variable winds are creating snow deposits and compact snow slabs in vulnerable areas, such as gullies and terrain depressions.
Closed Trails and Winter Alternatives
Affected trails include sections of the red, blue, yellow, and green paths, such as the red trail through Kocioł Łomniczki and the yellow trail near Śnieżne Kotły. Alternative winter routes are available, primarily using transport roads or Czech paths.
Visitors are urged to consult updated maps and adhere to safety regulations. For details, visit KPN’s website.
