Polish Academy of Sciences Eyes U.S. Expansion

Polish Academy of Sciences plans U.S. research center to foster scientific diplomacy and boost academic collaboration between Poland and America.

The Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) plans to establish a research center in the United States as part of its international outreach strategy. This facility aims to promote Polish science, foster academic partnerships, and enhance scientific collaboration between Poland and the U.S.

PAN currently operates six international stations but lacks a presence in the U.S.—a leader in research and development. According to PAN President Prof. Marek Konarzewski, the initiative seeks to address this gap and bolster Poland’s role in global scientific discourse.

Securing government support is key, with discussions involving Poland’s Ministry of Science and Foreign Affairs. Potential locations include Boston or California, reflecting their prominence in research. The center is envisioned as a hub for representing Poland’s entire scientific community.

The center also aspires to improve global awareness of Polish history and culture, following calls from experts like historian Norman Davies for greater international academic engagement.
