“They Act Without Scruples”: Inside the Alarming Arrest of a Prime Minister’s Office Official

A dramatic story has emerged from the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities at the Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS). On Wednesday, Marek W.—one of the individuals detained in connection with the case—was released from custody. He described his experience on Telewizja Republika, detailing what he calls shocking conditions of his arrest. His wife, Anna W., an official at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister’s Office, remains behind bars despite the fact that the primary suspect in the investigation has already been freed.

Arrested Before Dawn

Recalling the events that took place at the end of January, Marek W. said, “It happened on a Wednesday, just after 6 a.m. Someone knocked on our door. My wife went to open it, and from that moment the search and the formal notice of our detention began.”

Anna W. and her husband were taken into custody, leaving their children without parental care. One of the children has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome and, as Marek W. explains, requires constant emotional support and stability. “He shouldn’t experience stress, and this entire situation had a very negative impact on him,” said Marek W..

Children Left Without Proper Care

During the arrest, the couple’s children were so frightened that they pretended to be asleep. No one from the arresting team showed concern for their welfare, Marek W. claimed. “There were two teams—one focused on my wife, the other on me. Nobody took care of the children,” he said. “We tried to negotiate, asking what would happen to them. Initially, the suggestions included a juvenile shelter or foster care. Unfortunately, those were the first ideas—just to take them away.”

In the end, the children were cared for by a relative who, according to Marek W., was not prepared to handle the unique needs of a child with Asperger’s. “When our son was younger, his teacher once pulled me aside and said, ‘Take care of your wife. If something happens to his mother, your son won’t be able to handle it.’”

Isolation in Custody

After the arrest, Marek W. found himself in near-complete isolation. “They made sure I had no contact with anyone who wasn’t a staff member of the detention center,” he said. “When I was allowed out for my one-hour walk, they made sure I didn’t come across any other inmates. They would clear the corridor before I was allowed through.”

He described his living conditions as invasive. “There were two cameras installed in the cell and one in the toilet. I was entitled to a shower twice a week, but even then, an officer stood next to me. I was shocked.”

Asked about his wife’s situation, Marek W. expressed concern. He is not allowed any contact with her; she can only speak with her attorney. He assumes she is experiencing similar conditions.

Key Suspect Released, Official Still Detained

Despite the release of the primary suspect in the RARS investigation, Anna W.—who, according to her husband, never actually worked at RARS—remains in custody. Marek W. believes the arrests were politically motivated. “I was puzzled as to why I was being treated like a dangerous criminal,” he said. “Now I understand it was an attack on our family. It’s part of a political struggle.”

For now, the couple’s children remain in the care of relatives, while Anna W. continues to be held in detention. The case has sparked public outcry and raised questions about the use of pre-trial detention measures, especially when minors and individuals with special needs are affected. The investigation into alleged irregularities at RARS continues, but many are questioning the methods used to secure evidence—and the toll these actions have taken on a family already under strain.
