Poland has won the European Futsal Championship for priests, marking its ninth victory in the tournament’s history. The championship, first held in Austria in 2005, will return to Poland as the next host nation. This victory further cements Poland’s dominance in the competition.
Faith and Determination in Sports
Team captain Fr. Marek Łosak highlighted the role of faith in sports. He recalled a decisive moment in the semifinals against Croatia, where Poland scored the winning goal just six seconds before the final whistle. “We play until the end—just like in faith,” he stated, emphasizing that belief fuels both success and resilience in defeat.

O tym jak na boisku faulują księża, byciu faworytem oraz „że tak naprawdę trzeba mieć nadzieję do końca” – mówi ks. Marek Łosak @DiecezjaKielce.

Despite the physical nature of futsal, Fr. Łosak reassured that the games remain fair and respectful. Any fouls are met with immediate apologies and sportsmanship. The tournament also includes spiritual elements, such as pilgrimages, daily Mass, and prayer, reinforcing the deeper purpose of the event.
Beyond the competition, priest-players return to their parishes as role models. Their passion for sports helps connect with youth, encouraging them to engage in community life instead of screens. “It’s pastoral work through football,” Fr. Łosak concluded.
