Emotions ran high at the Polish Cup final in Warsaw—not only on the pitch, but in the stands. As the match unfolded at PGE Narodowy, Legia Warszawa supporters unfurled a banner that drew an immediate reaction from Poland’s Minister of Sport and Tourism, Sławomir Nitras.
The sign read:
“18 May, 1 June – let’s make sure the deceitful, rainbow‑flag Rafał doesn’t rule Poland together with Sławek the junkie.”
The first name clearly targets Warsaw mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, a frequent subject of Legia fans’ political barbs—earlier banners have included slogans like “Anyone but Trzaskowski.” But the line “Sławek the junkie” set off speculation about whom the insult was aimed at.
According to investigative journalist Marcin Dobski of Telewizja Republika, eyewitnesses in the VIP box report that Minister Nitras “flew into a rage when he saw the banner” and threatened that he would “deal with the people responsible.”
His colleague Sławomir Jastrzębowski reacted online with a pointed question: “Why, of all people, did Nitras take it so personally?” The minister has not yet commented publicly.
