In a pastoral letter for Lent 2025, the Metropolitan of Kraków, Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski, called for a fervent prayer in all jubilee churches of the Archdiocese of Kraków for the intention of teaching religion in schools and averting the danger of moral corruption of children and youth. He urged that the same plea be included in every Sunday’s Prayer of the Faithful in all parishes.
According to the Archbishop, the situation in Poland is taking a “very concrete and deeply concerning shape.” He warned that there is a strong desire in Polish schools to limit the true teaching about God and humanity at all costs, while simultaneously introducing a subject under the guise of health concerns that would practically corrupt the minds and hearts of even young children.
Proposed Ban on Confession
Archbishop Jędraszewski also noted that in some circles, there are calls to introduce a legal ban on children’s confession, thereby closing off their opportunity for a sacramental return to God. He emphasized that behind these programs, which have roots in the Frankfurt School founded exactly a century ago with clear Marxist origins, lies significant funding from the European Union, until recently from the USA, and various so-called non-governmental organizations. The Archbishop pointed out that there has never been a shortage of money for lies about God and humanity, and unfortunately, this remains the case.
These strong words are a direct commentary on the actions of Donald Tusk’s government, which is fully implementing the recommendations of his party colleague Sławomir Nitras, who advocates for “grinding down Catholics.” Leading these efforts is the Minister of Education, Barbara Nowacka, whose initial decisions focused on attempts to remove religion from schools. Subsequent “reforms” include the elimination of homework, changes to required reading lists, and the introduction of a subject containing content that corrupts children.
