Nawrocki Pledges to Revisit Reparations for Poland if Elected President

Dr. Karol Nawrocki, a civic candidate for the presidency of Poland, visited Wieluń today and announced that if elected, he will bring up the issue of war reparations from Germany on all international and European platforms. “When I become the president of Poland, I will return to the necessity of Germany paying reparations to Poland. We are owed these reparations!” Nawrocki declared.

Historical Significance of Wieluń

On September 1, 1939, at 4:40 a.m., German aircraft began bombing Wieluń. The attack resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people and nearly completely destroyed the city center. This assault marked the beginning of World War II and occurred just minutes before the shelling of Westerplatte.

Nawrocki: I Will Return to the Issue of Reparations

During his visit to Wieluń, Nawrocki shared a poignant story that moved him deeply. “After so many years, few things can still touch me. I have seen all the evils of totalitarian systems, but here in Wieluń, I was moved during one of my visits when I heard the story of little Wanda. Four-year-old Wanda Saganowska was saved by her father from a building destroyed by the Luftwaffe. But when her father rescued her, a bomb fragment killed her in his arms,” he recounted.

He continued, “This is both very touching and horrifying, and you know this story very well.”

Nawrocki also directly stated that if he becomes Poland’s president, the issue of reparations for Poland will be revisited. “Therefore, when I become the president of Poland, I will return to the necessity of Germany paying reparations to Poland on all international and European platforms. We are owed these reparations!” he asserted.

As Nawrocki pointed out, “This is not just a matter of the past and history, but also of justice between two nations.”

“This is a matter of our future and development. We will not be a colonial country begging for funds from the KPO. We are a free, independent Poland, owed over 6 trillion złoty for German crimes on the territory of the Republic,” he concluded.
