Sikorski vs. Trump Administration. Sakiewicz: “This is a very dangerous situation”

“By picking a fight with the U.S., looking for a provocation, and sending a signal that Poland wants to ridicule the U.S. and its efforts, we are taking a huge risk with our security. Without U.S. support, Poland could face the same fate as Ukraine,” said Tomasz Sakiewicz, the head of TV Republika, commenting on the dispute between Radosław Sikorski and officials from Donald Trump’s administration.

What was the point?

As a reminder, yesterday, Radosław Sikorski, Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in Donald Tusk’s government, engaged in a rather unpleasant—and unnecessary—verbal spat on the X platform, targeting politicians from Trump’s administration. The dispute involved Elon Musk and Marco Rubio. According to Tomasz Sakiewicz, this altercation could pose a threat to Poland’s security and foreign policy.

Sakiewicz elaborated on the matter on TV Republika:

“In my view, someone is deliberately creating the potential for conflict between Poland and the United States. By stirring up a dispute, they are trying to shift the fundamental principles of Poland’s security and foreign policy. This is an exceptionally dangerous situation.”

He expressed hope that the ruling coalition itself has enough strength to put a stop to this:

“What can Poland do today without the United States?” he asked rhetorically.

He also touched upon defense spending:

“We are already investing in our own defense, but Germany is not. Should we throw everything into one pot so that Germany can rebuild its army? Right now, they want to restore their military at Poland’s expense.

By picking a fight with the U.S., looking for a provocation, and sending a signal that Poland wants to ridicule the U.S. and its efforts, we are taking a huge risk with our security. Without U.S. support, Poland could face the same fate as Ukraine,” he warned.
