Katowice will be the European City of Science in 2024 – it was announced on Wednesday during a press conference with the participation of the Prime Minister, MP from the Katowice district, Mateusz Morawiecki, during which the rectors of 7 Silesian universities also signed an agreement to create a consortium of organizers of this event.
The prestigious title awarded by the EuroScience association, working for the development of science and technology and associating representatives of 75 countries, is also followed by the EuroScience Open Forum 2024. The event takes place every two years and focuses on research and innovation that is key to the future of the world. ESOF Katowice 2024 will be one of the most prestigious scientific and technological events in the world.
The head of government assessed that the potential of Silesian universities had not been used to a sufficient extent so far, although at the same time Katowice and the entire region were the “seedbed” of science.
