Belarus calls for the withdrawal of NATO troops “from the border neighbourhood” and threatens to trigger the war

We reiterate that NATO’s policy of expansion in the East of the continent is unjustified and aggressive and endangers the security of Belarus and the trade union state [with Russia]. We call for the withdrawal of the troops formed by the United States in the immediate vicinity of our borders and weapons. Their continuation in its present form could lead to the outbreak of a new armed conflict,” warned the Chief of General Staff of the Belarusian Army, Major General Viktor Gulewicz. The statement was published on the official website of the Ministry of Defence of Belarus.

In recent days, the effects of the Russian-Belarusian manoeuvres have been discussed in Belarus under the alias “Allied Decisiveness-2022”. Officially, the exercise was to end on Sunday and the return of Russian troops and weapons to their home units a day later. However, this has not happened. Minsk claims to have agreed with Russia to extend the combat readiness of the troops of the union state because of the tense situation in Ukraine. Thus, it is unclear whether the Russian troops will leave Belarus at all. This is all the more so as the war rhetoric of Belarus continues to intensify. This can be seen in the representatives of the Belarusian army, who are increasingly threatening neighbouring countries.
