Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra now in Wroclaw

The Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, previously known as the Symphony Orchestra of Pécs, will appear on the stage of the National Forum of Music in Wroclaw. The concert takes place on March 27th at 7 P.M. The orchestra conducted by Tibora Bogányia will accompany József Balog, a solo pianist.

The Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra has its roots in an assembly created in 1811 by György Lickl, a composer from Vienna. To honour their history, they play pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The concert will be divided into two parts. The first half is entirely dedicated to Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major op. 83 by Johannes Brahms, a four-movement piece strongly inspired by Hungarian tradition. In the second half, the musicians will perform Nocturne in G flat major op. 70 no. 1 by Giuseppe Martucci, a piano virtuoso who greatly redounded in the creation of Italian concert life. In the finale, The Miraculous Mandarin op. 19 created by Béla Bartók will be played. The plot of the ballet caused an eruption of a moral scandal when it first came out in 1926, but its soundtrack is appreciated and played to this day. The full concert will last 80 minutes.
