“A beautiful sight.” This is how a councillor from Civic Platform described the image of the burning papal cross

Dariusz Matecki reported a disgraceful post on the X platform that appeared shortly after Friday’s fire of the papal cross in Warsaw. It was published by a Civic Platform (KO) councillor from Stargard.

MP Matecki decided to “promote” a relatively unknown councillor from Stargard. He would not have done so if not for a post by Monika Kirschenstein, in which she shared a photo showing the fire of the papal cross that was destroyed on Friday. It is the same cross at which Pope John Paul II delivered his memorable homily in 1979.

“A councillor of Civic Platform in Stargard. Two weeks ago, she disrupted our press conference on mass migration and migrant integration centers,” Matecki wrote.

The MP also shared a second post, presenting a screenshot of another of the councillor’s social media publications. This time, it shows photos of her posing with her political favorites: Waldemar Żurek and Rafał Trzaskowski.

From councillors and other elected officials, we generally expect a higher standard. Unfortunately, politicians of Civic Platform (KO) are increasingly proving that this does not apply to them.

From now on, Councillor Kirschenstein will likely be known across Poland. Stargard has also gained publicity – though this is probably not the kind of attention the city authorities had hoped for.
