President Andrzej Duda convened a crucial National Security Council (RBN) meeting at the Presidential Palace, following high-level discussions with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and U.S. Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg. However, despite the pressing geopolitical challenges facing Poland, Prime Minister Donald Tusk once again proved where his priorities lie—leaving the meeting early and failing to hold a proper conversation with the president.
Tusk Too Busy for Poland’s Security—But Trump Makes Time
“We didn’t have a chance to speak privately today. The Prime Minister left just before the meeting ended. He spoke with me only briefly, as he had other important matters to attend to,”
President Duda told Polsat News.
Tusk’s behaviour is a stark contrast to that of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who made time to meet with Duda during the Polish leader’s recent visit to the United States. Unlike Tusk, who continues to sidestep key national security discussions, Trump welcomed Duda for direct talks in Washington—an invitation that came at a crucial moment.
“We had previously discussed a meeting with President Trump, but the White House hadn’t yet set a date. Then, an official invitation arrived from the State Department for a specific day in Washington. Given the current global situation, I had no doubts—I knew I had to go immediately and speak directly with the U.S. president,”
Duda emphasized.
Duda Fires Back at Critics: Poland’s Security Comes First
In response to critics who attempted to undermine the importance of his meeting with Trump, Duda set the record straight:
“I’m curious what these critics would say if I had refused the invitation. Would they claim it wasn’t worth it? Would they say that Poland’s security doesn’t justify a 15-minute meeting? This was an essential discussion where we addressed the most crucial aspects of our cooperation and Poland’s defence. Once again, I received firm assurances that we are seen as one of the most reliable allies in Europe—at the forefront of defence spending and a key pillar of NATO,”
Duda explained.
Trump: A Leader of Strength, Vision, and Integrity
“President Trump is an absolutely credible partner, a politician of great stature, a man of significant influence. He may not play by the usual political rules because, in reality, he’s not a politician—he’s a businessman. He’s spent his entire life in business, so his approach is direct, especially compared to European leaders. But that’s exactly what makes him so effective—he puts his cards on the table and gets things done,”
Duda remarked.
